Sharing-format fine dining, two Michelin stars in Altstadt, Kreis 1, Zurich

Passing the Plate at the Top
Fine dining usually means a plate set in front of you like a museum piece, and a waiter explaining it in a hush. IGNIV flips that. The idea is a fine dining sharing experience, which means the dishes land in the middle and everybody reaches. Andreas Caminada, a chef from Graubünden, put his name on it. Daniel Zeindlhofer runs the kitchen day to day, and Manuel Beer hosts the room.
Two Michelin stars since 2022, 17 GaultMillau points since 2023. The room is in the Marktgasse Hotel, a few steps from the Niederdorf crowds, and a sensible person books ahead. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday, lunch only Wednesday through Friday. Check the calendar before you plan around it, because the restaurant shuts for two stretches in 2026, late April into early May and again from late July to early August.
What I like about the sharing format is that it takes the stiffness out of an expensive night. Strangers at a table turn into a team. You pass, you taste, you argue about the best bite, and the kitchen gets to show off without a hush. If the evening still has legs, the IGNIV Bar upstairs is open until midnight on weeknights and 1:30 on Friday and Saturday. Bring people you like. This is cooking made for a crowd of friends.
